SCARECROW FESTIVAL

8 days - starting on the Wednesday before the August Bank Holiday - so for 2005 follow the crows from 24th August ......

This takes place from the Wednesday before the August Bank Holiday each year and goes on for 8 days thus including the Bank Holiday. It is on at the same time as Bude Jazz Festival and Lifeboat Day. There are various fun classes to enter, but not everyone does. It is too much fun for some people to want to compete. Everyone automatically gets a chance at winning the Scarecrow Trophy which is presented to the Scarecrow that raises the most money during the festival - by whatever means, fair or foul!

Top left is Jeff Roberts winning 2004 Best Group called 'All safe at Lugano' (the name of his house). Jeff won the first Scarecrow Festival in 2002 with a single entry called Jubilee Joe, which appears in some form or other every year. This year Jubilee Joe was scalped and won the most Scarey Scarecrow prize!

The most spectacular creation of our most productive Scarecrow designer, Ron Jewell. This is called 'Granfer's new toy'
He won the Best Group with his other display this year called Stan and Mollies Foster Home, which was an entire house made out of plastic milk bottles and roofed with Fosters cans plus a family of scarecrows made of the same materials.

Winner of the Funniest Story. This romantic couple was created by Celia Martin.

Webmaster note - we never got to hear the funniest story!

'Highly Strung Quartet' played quietly and sedately throughout the festival at the main sales tent in the Square.
'Hey Man, is this Glastonbury?'
Winner of the Best individual adults Scarecrow by Chrissie Butler.
.............. and so to 2005 ! ................

PS complain to our webmaster here if you think this is taking too long - she will drop the size of the pics but we thought we would try it like this first!
